VERMICULITE

Our Verm-4 is a high quality, low-dust, course grade #4 vermiculite and is popularly used as a non-reactive, inexpensive absorbent & cushioning in most 4GV variation 2 combination packaging. What is Vermiculite?

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) requires that all shipments offered to airline operators or through air freight forwarders classified as dangerous goods be accompanied by the IATA Shipper’s Declaration for Dangerous Goods form. PHMSA proposes to change the Hazardous Materials Regulations to maintain alignment with international standards by incorporating various amendments, including changes to proper shipping names, hazard classes, packing groups, special provisions, packaging authorizations, air transport limited quantities, and vessel stowage requirements.

These revisions are necessary to harmonize the Hazardous Materials Regulations with recent changes made to the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code, the International Civil Aviation Organization’s Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air, and the United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods—Model Regulations.

DATES: Effective date: January 19, 2011.

Voluntary compliance date is beginning January 1, 2011.

Delayed compliance date: Compliance with the amendments adopted in this final rule is required beginning January 1, 2012.

Exempts the package from the hazardous label requirement for shipments within the U.S.A. It permits the shipment of hazardous materials in a large variety and sizes of glass, plastic or metal inner containers from 1 liter/32 oz. or less. It also permits RSC inner box to contain the required metal can for inner packs of liquids.

This exemption authorizes the manufacture of certified performance oriented packaging for the shipment of hazardous materials, in most cases, without applying hazard labels or placards. Our exemption includes materials that are “Toxic by Inhalation” or “Pyrophoric”. It limits the shipment of liquids per inner packaging to 1-1 liter (32 oz.) and 2.72 kg (6.25 lbs.) for solids.

Each packaging unit includes

Copy of DOT-SP 10977 (Eight Revision) and packaging instructions.
Inner container of plastic, metal or glass not over 1 liter/32 oz. for liquids or 2.72 kg/6.0 lbs.for solids. Inner containers sold separately in capacities of 125 cc/4 oz. to 1 liter/32 oz. Your inner container can be used if it is certified to pass the hydrostatic requirement for air shipment.
Plastic pressure sensitive closure retaining tape.
Absorbent/cushioning blanket(s).
Metal can and cover with cover retaining ring. P/E bag and bag tie to contain metal can only if inner pack contains Division 4.2, 4.3, or TIH materials. Note: Metal can not required for most for most solids. See 7.a.10 of exemption.
Inner box, P/E bag, bag tie and 3-inch pressure sensitive box sealing tape.
Outer box and 3-inch wide pressure sensitive box sealing tape.

Vermiculite must be used as the cushioning/absorbent material in specified amounts for each stock number and is sold separately.

shipper must ensure any inner packagings containing liquid meet the pressure differential test criteria for air.All our UN rated boxes must be packed within the guidelines of how they were tested. Packing Instructions are supplied with each purchase. If other packaging methods or non-authorized components are used will invalidate the UN certificate associated with this packaging
