Exempts the package from the hazardous label requirement for shipments within the U.S.A. It permits the shipment of hazardous materials in a large variety and sizes of glass, plastic or metal inner containers from 1 liter/32 oz. or less. It also permits RSC inner box to contain the required metal can for inner packs of liquids.
This exemption authorizes the manufacture of certified performance oriented packaging for the shipment of hazardous materials, in most cases, without applying hazard labels or placards. Our exemption includes materials that are “Toxic by Inhalation” or “Pyrophoric”. It limits the shipment of liquids per inner packaging to 1-1 liter (32 oz.) and 2.72 kg (6.25 lbs.) for solids.
Each packaging unit includes
- Copy of DOT-SP 10977 (Eight Revision) and packaging instructions.
- Inner container of plastic, metal or glass not over 1 liter/32 oz. for liquids or 2.72 kg/6.0 lbs.for solids. Inner containers sold separately in capacities of 125 cc/4 oz. to 1 liter/32 oz. Your inner container can be used if it is certified to pass the hydrostatic requirement for air shipment.
- Plastic pressure sensitive closure retaining tape.
- Absorbent/cushioning blanket(s).
- Metal can and cover with cover retaining ring. P/E bag and bag tie to contain metal can only if inner pack contains Division 4.2, 4.3, or TIH materials. Note: Metal can not required for most for most solids. See 7.a.10 of exemption.
- Inner box, P/E bag, bag tie and 3-inch pressure sensitive box sealing tape.
- Outer box and 3-inch wide pressure sensitive box sealing tape.
